The President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Turkey Mr. Zühtü ARSLAN and Mr. Kadir ÖZKAYA, Member Judge of the Constitutional Court, with the accompanying delegation participated to the conference titled “Freedom of Expression: Still a Precondition for Democracy?” organized by the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. Mr. President delivered an opening speech together with Mr. Thorbjorn JAGLAND, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, and touched upon the importance of the freedom of expression, the relationship of this freedom with democracy and the challenges in this field.
Mr. President and the accompanying delegation met with Secretary General of the Council of Europe Mr. Thorbjorn JAGLAND, Vice-President of the European Court of Human Rights Mr. Josep CASADEVAL, Mr. Guido RAIMONDI who will take over the position of Presidency of the European Court of Human Rights as of 1 November 2015, Section President of the European Court of Human Rights Mrs. Ayşe Işıl KARAKAŞ and Director General of Human Rights and the Rule of Law of the Council of Europe Mr. Philippe BOILLAT.
