A delegation led by President of the Constitutional Court Mr. Kadir Özkaya paid a working visit to Qatar to discuss the transfer of the term presidency of the Conference of Constitutional Jurisdictions of the Islamic World (CCJ-I) to the Supreme Judiciary Council of Qatar and to further reinforce the bilateral cooperation between two institutions.

The delegation accompanying President Özkaya comprised of Vice-President Mr. Basri Bağcı, Justice Mr.  Engin Yıldırım, Justice Mr. Rıdvan Güleç, Justice Mr.  Kenan Yaşar, Justice Mr.  Muhterem İnce as well as Deputy Secretary General Mr. Mücahit Aydın and Chief Rapporteur-Judge Mr. Akif Yıldırım. Visiting at the invitation of the Supreme Judiciary Council of Qatar, the delegation engaged in a series of high-level discussions with their Qatari counterparts in Doha.

President Özkaya and the delegation held an official meeting with President of the Supreme Judiciary Council and President of the Court of Cassation of Qatar Mr. Hassan bin Lahdan Almohanadi. The discussions focused on joint activities carried out under the CCJ-I and touched upon the broader impact of bilateral ties between the two countries on their judicial cooperation. One of the agenda items of the meeting was the transition of the term presidency of the CCJ-I, a role first assumed by the Turkish Constitutional Court following the establishment of the Conference in 2022.  President Özkaya and President of the Supreme Judiciary Council of Qatar Mr. Hassan bin Lahdan Almohanadi reiterated their commitment to continued cooperation between two courts within the framework of the CCJ-I. Following the meeting, an official dinner program was hosted in honour of the delegation of the Turkish Constitutional Court.

President Özkaya and the Turkish delegation also met with the Speaker of the Shura Council Mr. Hassan bin Abdulla Al-Ghanim, assessing the echoes of robust relations of two countries on the judicial bodies.

In another meeting with Attorney-General of Qatar Mr. Issa bin Saad Al Jafali Al Nuaimi, the Turkish delegation exchanged information about the legal system of both countries.

As a part of the visit, President Özkaya and the Turkish delegation paid a visit to the Turkish-Qatar Combined Joint Force Command Centre and participated in a conference organised in the Joaan Bin Jassim Academy for Defence Studies. In the conference, President Özkaya delivered a speech titled “the Foundations of Constitutional Review in the Presidential System of Government.”

Türkiye’s Ambassador to Doha Mr. Mehmet Mustafa Göksu accompanied the delegation throughout their meetings with Qatari counterparts. The Turkish delegation also visited Turkish Embassy in Doha.
