President of the Constitutional Court, Mr. Kadir Özkaya, and the accompanying delegation paid a working visit to North Macedonia to further strengthen cooperation and dialogue between the constitutional courts of the two countries.

During the visit held on 28 September - 1 October 2025 upon the invitation of the Constitutional Court of North Macedonia, President Özkaya was accompanied by the Members of the Court, Mr. Recai Akyel, Mr. Yıldız Seferinoğlu, and Mr. Kenan Yaşar, as well as Secretary General Mr. Murat Azaklı and Rapporteur-Judge Mr. Ömer Mencik.

The visit featured bilateral negotiations between President Özkaya and President of the Constitutional Court of North Macedonia, Mr. Darko Kostadinovski, along with meetings between the two delegations. The meetings focused on the cooperation between the two constitutional courts and the exchange of experiences in the field of constitutional review. The delegations also held consultations regarding the 3rd Annual Meeting of the Balkan Constitutional Courts Forum, to be organised in Antalya on 13-16 November 2025.

As part of the visit, a ceremony was held to mark the completion of the project to digitalise the meeting hall within the Constitutional Court of North Macedonia, which was supported by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA). President Özkaya, delivering remarks at the ceremony attended also by the TİKA officials, stated: “The strengthening of our relations will undoubtedly make a significant contribution to the advancement of the rule of law and the proper recognition of human rights in the Balkan region.”

Mr. Kostadinovski, President of the Constitutional Court of North Macedonia, highlighted the excellent relations between the Constitutional Courts of Türkiye and North Macedonia, and noted: “It is my priority to ensure the constitutional cooperation between our two close and brotherly countries to attain the place and significance it truly deserves within the broader scope of bilateral relations.”

The delegation, meeting with Mr. Afrim Gaşi, Speaker of the Assembly of North Macedonia, and Mr. Fatih Ulusoy, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Skopje, also visited the house of Ali Rıza Efendi, father of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and the Monastir Military High School, where Atatürk studied, both of which were restored by the TİKA.
