The 2nd Summer School event themed “Principles of a Fair Trial” was organized in Ankara on 24 August - 3 September 2014 within the scope of the activities of the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions (AACC).
In the 2nd Congress held in Istanbul in this April, the AACC unanimously resolved that the summer school events, the first one of which was also held by the Turkish Constitutional Court (“Court”) in Ankara last year, be organized on a yearly and regular basis under the patronage of the Court.
The 2nd Summer School event was attended by the mid-level rapporteur judges, assistant judges, researches, legal practitioners and advisors from the Constitutional Courts or Equivalent Institutions of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, the Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Thailand and Turkey. Besides, jurists and senior judges from the European Court of Human Rights, the Superior Court in California, the USA and the German Federal Constitutional Court gave lectures during the event.
The 2nd Summer School event started with the opening remarks of Mr. Haşim KILIÇ, President of the Turkish Constitutional Court, at the Grand Hall. Following the opening ceremony, the participants toured the Court premises and were taken, after having a lunch at the Court restaurant, to Ramada Hotel where the conference would be held. In the evening, Mr. Alparslan ALTAN, Vice-President of the Court, hosted a dinner in honour of the guests.
The participants elaborated on the legal status and precedent court decisions of their own countries through their presentations delivered in English, working language of the summer school programme. They thereby found the opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences on the “Principles of a Fair Trial” during the negotiations as well as the questions and answers sessions.
During the event, the participants also attended social activities such as the bowling tournament and marbling art, a Traditional Turkish Art, which were intended for enhancing the fellowship and dialogue among the Association members. The guests then made a tour of historical, cultural and natural places in Ankara on 29 August. They subsequently had the opportunity to witness historical and cultural heritage of İstanbul on 30 and 31 August.
The 2nd Summer School event ended with the General Assessment Session and the Certificate Ceremony held on 3 September 2014.
